Calm spaces designed to soothe emotions are created for demanding environments such as schools with students exhibiting behavioral and emotional disorders (BEDD) and social difficulties (EDD), as well as facilities for people with disabilities. These installed facilities provide simple sensory relaxation elements and a highly secure environment, allowing individuals with challenging behaviors and aggressive tendencies to calm down and be encouraged to manage their own behavior. The aim is to reduce risks and potential harm, and promote patient safety.
The equipment in the mood adjustment room can be categorized as follows: Besides modifying the door opening direction, lock type, and adding impact-resistant, waterproof, and damage-resistant wall mats and seamless floor mats, wireless lighting control, ambient lighting, ceiling lights, vibration devices within the wall mats, and a sound system can be added. Participants will not and cannot touch these devices. Additionally, the furniture in the room will be replaced with hand-stitched reinforced panels instead of zippers (like beanbag chairs), without hard edges. Some chairs support body weight when seated but will collapse when standing to prevent participants from climbing.
